Differences Between Intumescent Coating Types

Water based intumescent coatings

Low odour, environmentally friendly. Also able to offer great value for c1/ c2 environments. Limited impact on site works.

Solvent based intumescent coatings.

More resilient to accommodate the construction phase and more corrosive environments. Improved durability compared to water based intumescent.

Epoxy intumescent coatings

Highly durable, typically used for external, offshore, or petrochemical environments.

All systems are selected and applied in accordance with BS EN 13501 2, ISO 12944 and manufacturer guidance.
